ABSTRACT
Palliative care offers comfort, dignity and emphasizes quality of life. Home Based Palliative Care (HBPC) programs meet the needs of high risk patients that do not qualify for home health or hospice. Misconceptions about HBPC have been found to be a barrier and a significant factor contributing to the low utilization of HBPC. Barriers and misconceptions include lack of staff knowledge regarding eligibility requirements, the referral process and how to initiate the difficult conversation with patients and their family regarding HBPC.
