ABSTRACT:
This poster introduces Lambi Learns, a trauma-informed, neuroscience-backed intervention designed to support early childhood emotional development and prevent future substance misuse. With over 21 million children in the U.S. impacted by parental substance use disorder, there is an urgent need for early, accessible strategies that address the physiological and psychological impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
Lambi uses story-based learning, emotional identification, mindful breathing, positive imagery, and grounding techniques to build emotional regulation and resilience in young children. Drawing on the foundational work of Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, Dr. Stephen Porges, and attachment theory, the program engages children in co-regulation practices proven to recalibrate the nervous system, reduce hyperarousal, and foster secure attachment.
The poster outlines the science behind Lambi’s approach—including the polyvagal theory and the body’s stress response system—while showcasing how these methods are brought to life through interactive books, classroom training, and family-based resources.
Lambi Learns is not just a book—it’s a practical, scalable intervention that empowers caregivers, educators, and community leaders to interrupt generational cycles of trauma and create emotionally safe environments for children to thrive.
